eHealth Africa Advocates for Sustainable Health Infrastructure at ICPHC 2025
Addis Ababa, Friday, 17 October 2025.
At ICPHC 2025, eHealth Africa emphasized renewable energy and digital innovation as keys to resilient healthcare systems, showcasing tools that drastically reduce vaccine logistics planning time.
Emphasizing Renewable Energy
At the International Conference on Primary Health Care (ICPHC 2025) in Addis Ababa, eHealth Africa made a compelling case for the integration of renewable energy in health infrastructure. By solarizing over 100 primary healthcare facilities, the organization has significantly increased patient access—surging from 1,300 to over 3,000 patients per facility. This initiative not only ensures the safety of surgeries and the potency of vaccines but also fosters healthier communities by maintaining a steady energy supply [1].
Digital Innovation in Healthcare
eHealth Africa presented two innovative digital solutions at the conference: ‘CHAT’ and ‘Planfeld.’ ‘CHAT’ is a climate health vulnerability assessment tool aiding governments and stakeholders to design climate-resilient interventions. It moves decision-makers from awareness to action, identifying risks, and protecting communities before crises occur. ‘Planfeld,’ on the other hand, revolutionizes vaccination logistics, reducing microplanning time from five days to just ten minutes, thereby enabling equitable workload distribution and faster vaccine deployment [1][2].
Strengthening Emergency Operations
The conference also highlighted the transformation of Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs) from mere polio infrastructure into integrated public health command centers. This evolution, initially begun in Nigeria, has now become a multi-country model enhancing emergency coordination across Africa. Such systemic changes are vital for effective public health responses, bolstering the continent’s resilience against health emergencies [1][3].
Future Prospects and Collaborations
Looking ahead, eHealth Africa is committed to reinforcing its leadership in advancing digital innovation, sustainable energy, and data-driven health systems. The organization plans to continue working closely with governments and partners to strengthen primary healthcare and build resilient communities. By leveraging technology and fostering strategic collaborations, eHealth Africa aims to bridge healthcare gaps across Africa, ensuring that primary healthcare remains a priority in achieving Universal Health Coverage [1][2].
